During July and August 2009, WDAA in conjunction with local Youth Organisations, Cheshire Police and the Environment Agency organised a series of fishing matches for the young (and not so young) people of the area. Over 75 people took part in the event, fishing on the National Pool. |
Background
The National Pool is the Associations newest addition to our list of waters. It came onto the WDAA card in 2003. It lies besides the National stretch of the River Weaver and stands within the park area of Cheshire County Council. The Council lease us the water and built us the fishing platforms that surround it.
The pool stands on the site of an old salt works which was demolished around 10 years ago. The pool was then dug out and the banks created by the silt deposits from the dredging of the Bottom Flash.
A car park stands right next to the pool and is accessible via the fisherman's track at the end of Weaver Valley Road, near Fords of Winsford. Unfortunately as the local idiots were using the car park for nefarious activities the Council have insisted that the entrance to the car park be permanently locked. However WDAA members can purchase a key - full details on how to get one are here.
This is a popular pool in the school holidays and at weekends with our younger members.
The Council forbid access to waters within park confines during the hours of darkness. To this end there is to be no night fishing. The lease could be cancelled if our members break these council rules so beware the bailiffs will be watching you.
Finally, please don't transfer fish from the river into the pool and vice versa. The transferring of fish increases the risk of infection and disease.
Closed Season applies March 15th to June 15th
